Hollow Knight fans hoping to get news on a possible release date for sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong, we have bad news.
Developer Team Cherry announced the sequel will be missing from this year’s E3. PR and marketing lead Matthew ‘Leth’ Griffin revealed the news on Discord, which was later shared on the Hollow Knight subreddit. At the time of this writing, the post accumulated over 450 comments.
“Hey guys!” Griffin said.” I just wanted to pop in to let you know that Team Cherry does not have any announcements/blogs scheduled for E3 this year.”
While similar announcements routinely get blasted with negative comments, the subreddit reacted neutrally. Some expressed disappointment for the wait and others appreciated knowing not to expect it ahead of the expo.
“I appreciate them coming out and saying that,” Redditor Highrevz said. “I’m looking forward to E3 but I don’t have to disappoint my self by expecting Silksong to be there.”
Fans began to theorize what could be the cause of the long development cycle. Despite Team Cherry being a team of three, a few comments felt the team announced the sequel too early. I feel the matter is pretty cut-and-dry, but I wouldn’t be shocked if Team Cherry did this to shock fans with news.
The Hollow Knight: Silksong Wait Continues
It’s not surprising some fans felt let down by the announcement of E3’s return. Team Cherry first revealed the Hollow Knight sequel in 2019. We then saw an extended look at gameplay at E3 later that year, but nothing really since. Many fans hoped to see its return this year, but looks like they will need to wait longer.
E3 2021 runs June 12 to June 15 with companies like Xbox, Nintendo, Square Enix and more to reveal upcoming games.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is set to release for PC & Switch, but no release date has been announced.
