Upcoming PlayStation exclusive makes Returnal the latest game to be delayed, joining the growing list of those not meeting their initial release date.
PlayStation tweeted an update saying Returnal will be moved from its initial release date of March 19 to April 30. The tweet did not give the exact reason why, only saying it was to give the team “extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque.”
The news won’t come as a surprise to fans. Many developers were forced to delay upcoming titles due to the coronavirus impact. PlayStation exclusive Destruction AllStars was originally set to be a PlayStation 5 launch title only for it to be delayed a few weeks before release. The game will make its debut next week as a PS Plus title.
Returnal is a third-person roguelike shooter from the developers of games like Resogun, Alienation, and Nex Machina. Housemarque creative director Harry Krueger said in a blog post earlier this month the team wanted to blend a unique mix of game styles. Returnal combines arcade action and bullet hell gameplay in this upcoming next-gen title. The team released a trailer detailing the combat alongside the blog post. Returnal will now release on April 30 for the PlayStation 5.
Honestly, I think DSA was delayed not only for more polish, but due to poor preorders. Likely, this could be why they put it as PS+ game. The decision will likely play out for the better for this game. It has heavy focus on MP, is very GAAS focused, and we only just now seen the gameplay.
On Returnal, *insert Miyamoto quote. Thankfully they didn’t wait until last second to delay. This does feel like a polishing delay. I got faith House Marque
